COURSE OVERVIEW
This 1 day course provides an opportunity for designers and landscapers to learn about the principles of SuDS systems and their role within the garden, along with identifying suitable solutions for downpipe disconnections and overland flows.
The day includes both classroom and practical training on the design and installation of different SuDS features, with examples of good practice and advice on how to calculate flow volumes and infiltration rates to ensure installers are siting the right SuDS feature in the right place.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
By the end of the day attendees will have an understanding of;
Current standards and good practice guidance in the UK
Key principles of the SuDS approach using case studies
SuDS benefits (hydraulics/water quantity, water quality, amenity and biodiversity)
Design approaches for different SuDS features; Rain gardens, Sunken rain gardens, Swales, Attenuation ponds
How to calculate flow volumes and undertake an infiltration test
How to install a SuDSPlanter
What legislation refers to SuDS and how it differs in England and Wales
How to manage the water quantity and quality of surface water runoff
·How to estimate runoff rates and the methods, model and tools available to do that
The value of water quality within the urban and rural environment, including; a background to groundwater and surface water risks from urban runoff
The value and methods available for assessing water quality risks and the suitability of proposed mitigation strategies
LEARNING FORMAT
Classroom plus practical workshop sessions, ongoing engagement after the 1 day course.
