Garden Design expert David Stevens FSGD, FCI Hort will teach you how to create a professional planting design for all types of gardens.
This course is designed for learners who want to understand the basics of garden planting design. In this 1 day course you will learn about planting techniques and how to assess your site conditions. You will also explore key plants, discover how to select varieties for their aesthetic, structural and visual properties and how they work best in gardens as well as how to create a planting plan on paper.
Learning outcomes:
At the end of this course, attendees should be familiar with the following:
Getting to know your garden and analysis of What you Have and What you Want in terms of both hard and soft landscape.
Understanding and analysing your soil, soil types and soil improvement.
Planting techniques and essential tools.
Plant classification and the importance of Latin names.
Plants – Trees, shrubs, Hardy perennials, roses, ground covers, wild flowers, annuals and bulbs, how to choose and use.
How to prepare a Planting Plan Drawn to Scale.
The importance of a border profile
Flower is a bonus, the importance of scale, shape, texture and leaf in the form and structure of plants.
The question of colour and how this influences the way you perceive space.
And finally preparing planting plans for specific locations and soil types
