COURSE OVERVIEW
This informative 4 day course offers a comprehensive and industry approved introduction to the laying, cutting and grouting techniques of paving.
The course is heavily weighted towards practical workshop sessions giving delegates ample opportunity to develop their paving skills and technique.
During the 4 days, an industry leading paving supplier and one of TASK’s Industry Partners will visit to demonstrate the very latest products.
The course also covers; setting out, what tools are required, bases, mixes, health and safety, manual handling, types of paving and their specific laying requirements, jointing and dressing and relevant legislation.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
By the end of the course, students will:
Know and be able to describe the advantages and disadvantages of different types of paving including Natural Stone, Cement based products and Porcelain.
Understand the principles of site safety, organisation and professional working practices when creating a paved area.
Be able to risk assess the proposed work area for hazards and obstacles and know how to detect and work around underground services.
Know how to establish and make safe access routes for materials, equipment etc.
Be able to set out the area intended for paving using 3:4:5 triangles (Pythagoras’ theorem) and other geometric principles.
Be able to calculate and set falls in accordance with the latest British Standard Guidelines.
Know how to excavate the intended paved area accurately and dispose of spoil appropriately.
Understand and be able to describe the terms Sub-grade, Formation level, Sub-base, Bedding course, Wearing course and the construction requirements for each.
Be able to create a suitable and effective mortar mix for the intended paving.
Learn ‘Best Practice’ laying techniques and be able to lay an area of paving to a specified level and to within industry recognised tolerances.
Know and be able to execute a variety of jointing options and techniques.
