COURSE OVERVIEW
An invaluable short 2 day practical course that will provide participants with the knowledge and skills to construct a top quality block-paved seating area, path or driveway.
The course covers block selection, excavation and construction levels, permeable paving/SUDS (Sustainable Drainage Systems), edge restraints, planning requirements, cutting in, methods of laying and patterns, potential issues, maintenance and much more.

LEARNING OUTCOMES
By the end of the course, students will:
State the differences between Rigid and Flexible paving and the pros and cons of each
Explain the planning regulations relating to the construction of driveways using block paving
Describe the construction levels, excavation depths and backfill materials used in block paving
Describe the materials and construction techniques involved in the installation of permeable paving and SUDS (Sustainable Drainage Systems)
Describe the materials and demonstrate the construction techniques involved in the installation of edge restraints (K + S)
Describe the materials and demonstrate the construction techniques involved in the preparation of the laying surface (K + S)
State the different types of block paviours currently available and their uses. (K)
Set out a range of commonly used bonding patterns, including 90° and 45° Herringbone, Basket Weave and Running Bond. (S)
Cut in blocks safely and accurately using appropriate equipment. (S)
Finish the paved surface to a professional standard (S)
Describe the industry-recommended maintenance procedures for a looking after a block paved surface (K)

Classroom plus practical workshop sessions.
GOOD TO KNOW
Free membership access (worth £50) to The Landscape Library for 6 months, for all course participants once they have attended a TASK Industry course (includes access to training resources, articles, features, templates, publications, advice notes, cross section drawings and mentorship) . Lunch is not included, we recommend you bring your own packed lunch for each day

There is currently no accommodation available at Lower End Farm for TASK students. There are plenty of local accommodation possibilities, please contact us for a range of options.
Participants are required to have a minimum level 2 in English and Maths.
